A 31-year-old woman sits half-dressed in lederhosen, after a 24-hour weekend of work carrying pints for Oktoberfest, serving fat rich people who've spent £51 on a 5-hour drinking session. She reaches for her phone, while an 18-year-old next to her talks to the room about an upcoming trip to California. Our woman's phone dials. She says "Just calling to check up on you!" A well-intentioned, low-energy lie. She's pregnant, exhausted. After a slurred, sleazed reply, she asks that when she gets home, "those guys" aren't there. Steady, steady, on she goes. Addiction runs rings around us all. I hope she and the baby are out of there now.
